Middle East

The BSAC Area Qatar is part of the Middle East Regional coaching scheme.  Qatar is a small peninsular jutting into the Arabian Gulf with a little under 1 million inhabitants.  It currently sports three BSAC branches.  Two of them are special branches supported by the national oil company.  Unfortunately, these branches are currently very small and not very active.  The other branch is the Doha Sub-Aqua Club.  This is a very active branch with approximately 140 members.

The area coaching scheme is run as part of the main training scheme of the Doha Sub-Aqua Club.  In a normal year we would run approximately one skill development course every 2 weeks.  The programme covers all of the basic requirements, but also tries to include some of the rarer and newer courses.  This is as much to retain the interest of the instructors as it is run for the students.  However, we have yet to manage the ice diving course.

On the diver training side, in a typical year we would run four Ocean Diver courses, two Sport Diver courses, and one Dive Leader Course.  Advanced Diver is done on a one to one basis.  Courses are open to all, and the skill development programme is also advertised regionally.

The Area Coach for Qatar is Peter Bolton.  He can be contacted by e-mail on bolton@qatar.net.qa, or mobile phone on +974 5853836.  Visit the Doha Sub-Aqua Club web site at http://www.dohasubaquaclub.com  the latest information about the training scheme and courses.
