Diver Training Feedback

As with any change to a training programme there will be a range of feedback on the changes both positive and negative. Below is a selection of some of the feedback received following the update to the Diver Training Programme announced at DOC 2006 and put into place in January 2007.

We welcome all feedback but please note that the comments below are just a selection to illustrate the range and type of feedback received. Where appropriate references to answers for any questions raised will be made after the text from the individual.

All comments from individuals are unedited and represent the opinion and views of the person they are attributed to and do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of the British Sub Aqua Club.

"It’s all too easy to pass on the moans when things don’t go well, so I thought I would take the opportunity to say well done on the new Instructor Resources CD, and on the changes to the DTP.

It’s hard to believe that Nitrox seemed new and exotic around 10 years ago, when it is now the mainstream diving gas on liveaboards, so the shift to include it in Ocean Diver training is very timely and much-welcomed.  Similarly with the changes to the range of experience dives for Advanced Diver.

The Instructor resources CD is to the usual high standards and I am particularly pleased that it now comes as a CD rather than as a bulky manual.  I spend most of my working life travelling so it’s great to have all the info on my laptop, enabling me to prepare for training sessions wherever I am without carting a heavy thick manual around.  The lower price has also encouraged our branch instructors to buy their own copy rather than rely on borrowing the branch pack and / or being ill-prepared and just “winging itâ€? on the night.

Thanks to you and the team for all your hard work."

"Can I just take a few minutes to say thank you to who ever is behind the Nitrox Workshop initiative

LMC Subaqua is a student dive club most students join as non divers in September and do an intensive OD course over several weekends.
Sports dive lectures through the winter and open water SD training round about May April.
Then we try and put a warm dive together for them in the summer. Last year it was the Red Sea and same again this year. They all want to dive the Thislegorm and the local dive centres fit two dives into a single trip.

I dived it last year on Nitrox but used it as safe air (I am 58) and the second dive was a 15min deco dive. I did not want newly qualified divers doing this on air, but have failed in getting them Nitrox qualified in time or within their budgets. Last year several of them did the Padi Nitrox course run by one of my colleagues in house.

Now BSAC have come up with the goods, I can train the SD's on Nitrox and worry less when they go off to the Red Sea.
I have now read both the OD and SD syllabus it makes sense and allows branches to deliver what is needed

My thanks to those involved in this new initiative"

"I've just read the updates to the Dive Training programme in the NDC Bulletin. These are superb, particularly getting nitrox into use from Ocean Diver upwards. I applaud your innovation.

I can imagine how much hard work has gone into these updates and thank you and the rest of the DTG team for your efforts."
