BSAC SKILL DEVELOPMENT COURSE
Only those registered with BSAC HQ as Gas Blender Instructors may teach on the BSAC Gas Blender Courses.
This information is applicable both to those wishing to become Approved Instructors and to Mixed Gas Instructor Trainers who will recommend Instructors for Approved Instructor status.
'Approved Instructor' status is required because Mixed Gas Blender does not form part of the Core Diver Training programme and by it's nature requires additional skills by the Instructor
Requirements for approval:
- Be a current BSAC Member.
- Be qualified as a BSAC Open Water Instructor.
- Have attended a BSAC Gas Blender Course (Nitrox or Mixed Gas) (or equivalent - see Note 3) within the last three years.
- Serve actively and effectively as an Assistant Instructor on a BSAC Gas Blender Course (Nitrox or Mixed Gas) and thus obtain the recommendation of the lead instructor, who must be an Instructor Trainer, for the appropriate course.
Those who wish to become Approved Instructors for the Mixed Gas Blender Courses must obtain the Mixed Gas Blender Approved Instructor Application downloadable from this site and then submit this with the following information:
-
Photocopies of your BSAC Gas Blender certificate (Nitrox or Mixed Gas) (or equivalent) from your qualification record book.
-
Photocopies of your BSAC Open Water Instructor certificate from your qualification record book.
-
A passport-sized photograph.
-
The Gas Blender Instructor Registration Fee of £20.00, by cheque payable to ‘BSAC’ - see Note 1.
-
If qualified by a Gas Blender training agency other than the BSAC, an additional £25.00 charge for additional training materials – see Note 2.
Note 1:
The £20 fee provides you with a Mixed Gas Blender Instructor Pack:
Course Instructor Notes and CD-ROM, containing all visual aids for the BSAC Mixed Gas Blender course (MS PowerPoint), plus Instructor Registration and Qualification Card.
Note 2:
The additional £25 fee (compulsory unless Mixed Gas Blender trained by the BSAC) provides you with the BSAC Mixed Gas Blender Student Manual and calculation software.
Note 3:
For full ‘Mixed Gas Blender Instructor’ approval, the equivalent qualifications issued by other training agencies, used in gaining this approval, must include Trimix blending.
