BSAC General Information - Dive Permits - Spain

Foreign visitors to Spain do not need a Spanish Dive Permit if:

Current and qualified BSAC members comply with both requirements. Members should take with them on their holiday to Spain evidence of BSAC qualifications, current membership and fitness to dive.

Divers other than current BSAC members may obtain a Spanish Dive Permit ('La Licencia Federativa') on their arrival in Spain, from a dive centre which is affiliated to the Spanish national diving federation FEDAS. The Permit will cost in the order of 15.00 sterling and is valid for the current calendar year. It provides liability insurance and medical / recompression treatment of diving related illnesses. Even though it may take more than a week for FEDAS to actually issue the licence, it is considered valid as soon as FEDAS have received the application by letter or fax.

This is fine if divers are using the same dive centre throughout their stay. Those who plan to dive at different places in Spain are more likely to be asked by relevant authorities to show that they have Permits, and should ask the diving centre to provide a copy of the application. They are advised to contact a FEDAS affiliated dive centre at least four weeks in advance of their holiday, to seek the centre's help in obtaining Permits for all diving members of the party, so that they can be collected from that centre on arrival / at the start of their diving tour. The best centres to contact for this service are those which are also BSAC Schools.
