CCR Build Up Dives Advice
Introduction
This is a suggested programme of build up dives aimed at the newly qualified rebreather diver to enable him/her to gain experience in a safe and progressive way. Please look upon this programme as advice rather than tablets of stone. Some divers will feel more confident and will not feel the need to follow the whole programme. Others may wish to follow it in its entirety. It is designed to be used as a guide and divers are invited to utilise those elements they feel apply specifically to their needs.
Many "Rebreather" instructors advise their students to progress on the basis of;
- up to 10 hours at a depth of 10m or less,
- up to 20 hours at a depth of 20m or less,
- up to 30 hours at a depth of 30m or less,
- up to 40 hours at a depth of 40m or less.
BSAC considers this very sound advice and strongly recommends it to you.
- The programme is specifically aimed at the new rebreather diver who does not have an experienced rebreather diver in his/her branch to dive with. Especially on those vital early dives after completing the unit specific course.
- BSAC strongly recommends that the new rebreather diver in this situation contact the BSAC Regional Technical Adviser for support.
- BSAC hopes it will be particularly useful in the situation where a diver has completed a unit specific course and a period of time has elapsed between that course and beginning to dive the unit.
- This programme may also be used as a guide by a Regional co-ordinator or an experienced rebreather diver who may be leading new rebreather divers on their early dives.
- Furthermore, BSAC suggests it can be useful as a reference when an experienced rebreather diver has had a long lay off such as a winter break.
- Finally, it is hoped it will provide a useful reference for Branch Diving Officers and Training Officers when they are faced with integrating new rebreather divers into their Branches.
