POE - How to Book

This section lists BSAC National Events, Instructor Training Scheme Courses and Examinations, Snorkel Instructor Training Scheme Courses and Examinations; Skill Development Courses run by the Regional Coaching Scheme; Expeditions and the names of BSAC Diver Training Centres offering Skill Development Courses during 2007.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
As announced at the Diving Officers Conference in December 2000 all BSAC Regional Skill Development Courses (apart from those using special equipment) will be run at a cost of the Registration Fee plus Regional Costs incurred in running the course.  The Registration Fee will be listed with each course title, so for example the cost for a First Aid for Divers Course would be the £15.00 Registration Fee per candidate plus any costs for venue and instructors travel and any consumables used on the event.  These expenses would be paid and collected locally by the Senior Instructor or Local Organiser of the event.
Fixed course and examination fees apply to all Instructor Training Scheme, Snorkelling Scheme and Expeditions.
All minimum entry level diving qualifications and other prerequisites will be listed after the title of the event.  Note - (T) = Theory; (P) = Practical.

A BSAC Skill Development Course can be set up and arranged in three ways
  1. As a Regional Event organised by the Regional Coach.
  2. As a Branch Event organised by a Branch.  A "Branch Officer" must endorse this application.
BSAC Branches that offer Skill Development Courses (SDCs) to their members may work jointly with other Branches to organise an SDC.  The BSAC Regional Coaching Scheme may be able to provide experienced leaders for Branch-run courses.
In order to have "BSAC SDC Certification", the student course packs must be ordered on-line, or by application form, directly from the BSAC Shop prior to the event.  Application forms and syllabus sheets can be downloaded from the website at the Skill Development Course Section.
  3. At a BSAC Diver Training Centre, though the level of fees charged may differ.
All BSAC Skill Development Courses, run by the Coaching Scheme and BSAC Centres are open to non-members, but they will pay a £30.00 premium over and above the normal course fee paid by members.  Those taking their bookings will use the BSAC's Table of Similar Qualifications to determine whether the qualification they hold meets the course entry requirements.  BSAC ITS events are not open to non-members.
All who attend a BSAC Skill Development Course, whether run by Coaching Scheme, a Branch or a BSAC Diver Training Centre, will have their attendance recorded on a database at BSAC HQ and be sent certification for their Qualification Record Book (QRB).

Where BSAC diver training lessons are covered within a Skill Development Course, the Chief Instructor is authorised to sign these lessons in a BSAC member's Qualification Record Book.
While every effort has been made to ensure that the information here is both accurate and comprehensive, members should be aware that course dates and venues may be subject to change or cancellation and that local expenses may be different.  Often the most up-to-date information about courses can be obtained either from BSAC HQ, from the 'BSAC Courses' column in DIVE Magazine, from Regional Newsletters or via the Events Index in this section.

Regional Coaches/Skill Development Course Organisers (SDCOs) may be able to arrange extra events if there is a clear demand.

APPLYING FOR PLACES:

In order to ensure a place on any event it is important that completed applications (including payment) are made at least 1 week before the event date.
  1. Instructor Training Scheme: apply to the Central Bookings Administrator at BSAC HQ for application forms and availability of places, or go to the appropriate course page in this section, select an event, and book on-line.  Members are advised to book places six to eight weeks in advance of the event.
  2. Snorkel Training Scheme: apply to the Snorkelling Administrator, BSAC HQ or visit the snorkelling website to download an application form - www.bsacsnorkelling.co.uk
  3. Skill Development Courses run by the BSAC Regional Coaching Scheme: apply to the Regional Coach/SDC Organiser (SDCO), for application forms.  For availability of places, please contact the appropriate Regional Coach or SDCO - HQ does not have this information.
  4. Skill Development Courses offered by BSAC Diver Training Centres: apply only to the BSAC Centre offering the course.  The same scale of charges does not necessarily apply to Skill Development Courses offered by BSAC Centres, each of which will set their own level of fees.
  5. Expeditions: apply to the SDC/Expeditions Administrator at BSAC HQ.
Contact addresses for all Regional Coaches/SDCOs and HQ administrators
will be found under CONTACTS.
