The Trustees

The Trustees are all divers and have had a long association with the Club. They have a wide range of appropriate professional skills to draw upon in the selection of projects for grant assistance. The activities and selection of the Trustees is governed by the rules of the Charity Commissioners. The Trustees undertake the task purely voluntarily, in their spare time and at their own expense.

Retired Chartered Accountant. Member of the British Sub-Aqua Club since 1954.
Chairman of the Club 1964 - 69. Made Life Vice-President in 2005.
Vice President of Royal Geographical Society 1984 - 87, Hon Treasurer 1974-84.
Chairman Royal Geographical Society (Enterprises) Ltd. 1978 - 2005.
Honorary Vice-President Royal Albert Hall.
First Class diver.

Secretary

Dr. Paul Cragg
B.Sc., Ph.D.
Retired university lecturer in Marine Biology. Member of British Sub-Aqua Club since 1964. Advanced Diver. Past member of BS-AC Council for seven years
Director of National Institute of Marine Education. This is an oganisation dedicated to teaching marine biology to divers ranging from the complete amateur to the expert.

Diving Consultant and Managing Director of Submex Ltd.
Been diving since 1960 and a member of the BSAC since 1964. First Class Diver, National Instructor and past Regional Coach and Diving Officer of Southsea BSAC.
Founder chairman of the Historical Diving Society.

Gavin Anthony
B.Sc., M.Sc., C.Chem., C.Sci., F.R.S.C.
Principal Consultant Diving and Life Support at QinetiQ Alverstoke.
30 years experience in research and development of diving systems and procedures.
Diver and member of BSAC since 1970. BSAC Advanced instructor and HSE ptIII commercial diver. Consultant to BSAC Technical diving group and NDC.  
 
 
 
Dr. Phil Bryson
MBChB, DCH, DRCOG, MRCGP.
Qualified since 1984 and working in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine since 1985.
Medical Director of DDRC since 1999.
A member of the European Committee on Hyperbaric Medicine.
Interested in research into the effects of increased barometric pressure.
A diver since 1982.
 
  
 
Ernest F Crook
A Solicitor, now retired. A Member of the British Sub-Aqua Club since 1963.
Was the Club's Honorary Solicitor for many years, and has been its Company Secretary.
Made an Honorary Life Member in 1981 and made a Vice-President in 1994.
An Advanced Diver and was Chairman of Birmingham Branch BSAC for a number of years.
 
 
 
Dr. Nic Flemming
O.B.E., M.A., Ph.D.
Trained as a diver in the Royal Marines in the 1950s, and started scientific diving at Cambridge University in 1957.  He has organised and led many diving projects, mostly aimed at understanding the changes of sea level during the ice ages, and archaeological remains which are now under the sea.  He has worked on various UN and UNESCO committees concerned with the management of the sea, and was Director of the European Office of the Global Ocean Observing System from 1994 to 2001.  He is a Research Fellow at the National Oceanographic Centre Southampton, and is conducting research on Palaeolithic and Mesolithic occupation of the North West European continental shelf.  He has published several books and many scientific papers in refereed journals. 
 
 
Dr. Richard Pagett
B.Sc., Ph.D
Independent advisor providing policy advice on environmental management, sustainable development, disaster and security issues, internationally, on behalf of foreign governments and international agencies.
A member of the British Sub-Aqua Club since 1972.
Advanced Diver and Club Instructor.
 
 
 

Ray Sutcliffe
M.A., F.S.A.
Worked as a specialist producer of history and archaeology programmes for the BBC. Founder member of the 'Chronicle' series and a pioneer of marine archaeology on film.
Established the major series 'Discoveries underwater' including a film 'the Mary Rose'. Currently a trustee of the Nautical Museums Trust and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
