Change has been central to every post I’ve held, first the introduction of mainframe computing to the front office with the subsequent staff retraining issues; secondly business reorganisation to realise Web technologies. Edward moved into audit from frontline management about 8 years ago and gets a buzz from helping frontline managers develop processes to realise their business objectives, not forgetting Disaster Recovery procedures. Alan Robinson
Member of Tameside Branch
Alan has been diving for over ten years and is an Advanced Diver and Open Water Instructor.
He dives regularly in the UK and has logged 150 dives in the last year.
Alan's background is in Operational Management and for the last 25 years has worked in senior roles within the Pharmaceutical Industry.
In the past five years he has been involved in the development and setting up of a new business to support private sector organisations.
Objectives
Main objectives for him while on council are, to look at medium term business strategies to grow the organisation and attract new members.
In addition to this Alan wants to continue to work with branches to promote sub-aqua to a younger audience.
Some diving information about me; My diving career started with a decision to conquer my fear of water, which was closely followed by failing the dreaded “A Test” ( ask a golden oldie in the Branch, if you haven’t got a clue what I mean). However, as history shows, something worked, as 22 years later I am still in the Club, and am now an Advanced Diver who working on First Class, an Instructor Trainer, working in the South Eastern Coaching Scheme, and am one of the newest Council members.
One the work front: I am a trained nurse, working in theatres and A & E, but have worked in sales, marketing, as a secretary on a building site, doing accounts, HGV driving, winery assistant, and recently as a fork lift driver.
I have many skills, and have organised diving expeditions for upto 80 people, and dinner dances for about 150 over the last 20years, so maybe have good organisational skills. I have been on the Branch Committee in most positions, and am presently the Chairman of the British Freediving Association.
Being new, I am finding what my role on Council is. What I can bring is an ability to makes things simple and easy to understand. Also to find ways to do things inexpensively whilst achieving a good result. I care passionately about the BSAC and would like to give back whatever I can within Council, to the Club that has given me so much.
