j)The British Sub Aqua Club is a uniquely successful organisation that thrives only because of the willing volunteers who contribute both skills and time to the benefit of our club. Volunteers serve throughout our club as Branch committee members, Instructors, Diving Officers, Regional Coaches, Area Coaches, Skill Development Course organisers, Expedition organisers, National Diving Committee members, Council members and other numerous and varied roles. Each volunteer is equally crucial to our success in providing a professional and accessible service for our fellow members. With the rising pressures of work and family life our members increasingly require a choice in the way that they can access their sport. The volunteers across our organisation need support to be able to facilitate safe, enjoyable and adventurous diving for our members. I offer the depth of my experience in serving the BSAC, continuing the excellent work of Marcus Allen as Chairman and, if elected, I will focus my efforts on providing our volunteers with the support and structures that they need to make their role as smooth and as satisfying as possible; there by ensuring the continued success of our club.

j)Diving has always been a great passion for me whether in a local quarry, around our coast or elsewhere in the world. I have been proud to say that I am BSAC trained, and believe that really stands for something. I want to see BSAC continue to provide the best training courses at all levels, beginners to advanced technical divers. We need to continue to invest in our development and leadership to remain the best diving club in the world. As a regional coach I had the opportunity to engage with many Branches around the West Midlands and recognised the fantastic work done at Branch level. We need to increase our support and services for Branches and for our members so that we can retain members of BSAC for the whole of their diving life. There should be significant benefits in being a BSAC member anywhere in the world. It is essential that support to Branches by headquarters makes things easier for Branch officers, we need to capitalise upon the advancements we have made. At the same time we have a responsibility to maintain BSAC as a strong and vibrant organisation, open to all, with strong finance and governance.

j)I believe the BSAC being the Governing body of sport diving in the UK should be at the fore front of diving and provide its members with the best it can, in training and diving advice and materials, world wide. I also believe we should try to encourage more members in to the BSAC, if that means through snorkelling or starting them early at a younger age that would also be a great positive for the BSAC as a whole. It would also make the membership stronger and the BSAC more viable to sustain the BSAC as a whole. Support of the NDO in their project that will ensure safer diving, is a must by council. Support of BSAC HQ in the day-to-day running of the BSAC is also a good remit of council and having Council members leading some projects helps with the communications to members and leads the project forward to completion.

i)My wife and I have built four world-class businesses over seventeen years. We currently run a consultancy working with communities for public and private sector clients (www. erskinecorp.com) and a web-design agency (www.erskinedesign.com). I have considerable experience in volunteer working: until recently Chair of the local Chamber of Trade and a Young Enterprise mentor – skills I have extended into the BSAC. My speciality is identifying opportunities then developing them by surrounding myself with people who are the best in the business. Basically team building is the essence of what our consultancy helps and trains communities achieve!!
j)The British Sub Aqua Club is a fantastic organisation that needs sensitive development or it will die. The Club ethos must be maintained, but continuously modernised, to recognise and serve the rapidly changing needs and lifestyles of existing and potential members: This can only be achieved if the organisation works as one with strong leadership. We must develop products and services to be attractive to instructors in other organisations encouraging them to certify divers using BSAC materials. It is vital to appeal to the young, providing them not only world-class diver training and a progressive route to greater achievement, but also products and social scene that matches the exciting image of diving. My manifesto is to: • continue the work currently undertaken by council and staff to establish what potential and existing members want from the organisation, now and into the future • be a part of a cohesive team, led by the Chair, to deliver the necessary changes • help bring together all the facets of the organisation to work as one • encourage members to regain the organisation’s rightful place at the forefront of amateur underwater exploration Oh... and make sure I do loads of great diving myself.

Professional career in electronics research, IT and education sectors. Executive Director BSAC International (unpaid).
j)Starting from a fundamental belief in the unique BSAC Branch system and our unrivalled diver training system, I believe it is essential for our members to have their qualifi cations respected and understood internationally. Our members travel, work and live worldwide and BSAC needs to support this. To minimise subscription levels and support continued BSAC development we must also ensure we benefi t from alternative income streams that meet our aims and principles. Such income has proved vital in the past, is essential today and is likely to play a similar role in our future. A Council position will enable me to better communicate and coordinate with other members of BSAC’s management team and contribute to future development.

j)As a BSAC member since 1975 I feel I have much to contribute as a member of Council. Our club has had highs and lows in this time and we must avoid the mistakes of the past. The fi nancial crisis which almost led to the demise of our organisation in the late 90’s was a predictable event which could, and should, have been avoided. Council must be the watchdog of membership. BSAC’s strength lies in its branch system which must be supported and ordinary members interests protected. The long term decline in membership must be reversed by recognising that we are no longer the "fi rst stop" for many taking up the sport and recruit from those trained elsewhere. More needs to be done to publicise the benefi ts of belonging to what is, I believe, the best diving club in the world. Finally I feel that my technical and small business experience would be of value to the club as a member of Council, and if elected, would work to meet the challenges which lie ahead.

h)First Class Diver, Advanced Instructor
i)I retired as a Junior Offi cer from Oxfordshire Fire Service in September 2000, after 26 years service. In addition to operational activities I was involved in all forms of training, teamwork and service management. Subsequently, as a service manager for a fi re equipment company I was responsible for service and instillation of fi re equipment, customer fi re training provision, training new employees and the company Health & Safety policy. Currently I work for Thames Valley Police as a Station Duty Offi cer providing the fi rst point of contact for members of the public and working closely with police colleagues
j)I started diving in 1985 and qualifi ed as a First Class Diver, Advanced Instructor, SCR (Draeger) Diver and am an active Instructor Trainer, although not as much as I once did. As a former Regional Coach for the Southern Region I learned some valuable lessons about sharing the diving experience and the real strength that lies in our branches. I still enjoy club diving whether it is Stoney Cove, Chesil Beach or Hard boat and get the same buzz as when I fi rst started. Currently, as Diving Offi cer for the Thames Valley Police Dive Club I have fostered links with other clubs to share resources that are benefi cial to both parties. I truly believe that this is what BSAC is all about, the club is accessible to all and should stay that way and we, as a club should grasp what the future holds and grow with it. My experience as a regional Coach and ITS member has given me a valuable insight into the broader workings of BSAC but I am still fi rmly planted in the grass roots of the club. If I am elected to council I would be the voice for the ordinary member.

h)Advanced Diver/Open Water Instructor.
i)Present: I am an Assistant Director within the MoD responsible for the safe-keeping of MoD assets held or used by industry. Previous: Assistant Business Manager. I was responsible for introducing the Balanced Score Card system of Business Management. Earlier still: Auditor in the Directorate of Internal Audit. I was a key player in the introduction of a new Management Information System. When evaluating business procedures I would establish the main business objective(s). Only then, could useful advice be given to management. I was involved primarily within Strike Command and the Defence Logistics Organisation, as was.
j)Introduce the ‘Balanced Scorecard’: Following the successful introduction of the new IT system at HQ (Neptune) I now believe it is time to introduce the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) system of management reporting. The advantage over the current system is that interrelationships between projects should be highlighted, additionally, BSAC would not fall into the trap of just concentrating on fi nance at the expense of other business areas. I will work with new Chairman and Council to ensure BSAC reap the benefi ts of the BSC system. Branch Visits by Council Members: I would continue to visit Branches to hear fi rst hand how Council decisions are being received. My "day" job takes me all over the country so there is minimum drain on member’s moneys through expenses. Ongoing Activities: IT – Complete the implementation of an IT Strategy for BSAC started by my predecessor. Business Continuity Plan - Continue to develop BSAC’s Business Continuity Plan. BSAC Forums – Continue to act as the lead moderator, answerable to Council, on forum control measures.

h)Adv Snorkel Diver, Instructor Trainer & Sports Diver
i)On retiring from the police in 1993, I attended college and obtained an NVQ4 in Business Management. I have served on a number of management committees of local organisations including serving as a Director on the board of trustees for Tameside Sports Trust. During my Police Service I undertook numerous management courses. Prior to joining the Police I started training as a Chartered Accountant but gave it up after three years to pursue a more exciting and physical occupation.
j)An Advanced Snorkel Instructor and Corporate Snorkel Instructor Trainer, I am a Sports Diver but recently I had to give up scuba due to medical reasons, I actively take part in diving events as Diver Cox, enjoy snorkelling and the organising of training courses for the Branch. BSAC involves far more than just Scuba diving. Apart from being the Northern Snorkel Development Offi cer for BSAC I am also the Diving Offi cer in my Branch, a thriving Snorkelling Branch with a growing Scuba Section. An avid supporter of introducing young people into the sport it is no surprise that the Scuba section comprises of 90% young people aged 12 to 16 years. Now we have introduced younger people into the organisation I feel that we should do more for them and also for grass root membership, the ones who want to dive just for pleasure and enjoyment without getting too technical. If re-elected I will continue to strive for Council to recognize and satisfy the needs of all members.

j)I am a crossover from PADI with additional skills from TDI, IANTD, AIDA, NAS and PSA. I joined BSAC Direct some years ago and quickly a local branch. I dived with them for several years before I SALTed to do an IFC and some SDCs. As an instructor I have a vested interest in a strong, progressive BSAC at the centre so branches can concentrate on going diving and delivering training. As a small business owner and computer programmer I have a strong IT background and an awareness of a customer driven operation in a competitive environment. These are skills which match understanding the ongoing operation and future development of BSAC for the benefi t of its members. As a branch member I would like to encourage programs that get divers to progress their diving in all areas including leadership, instructing and technical programs. As a diver I acknowledge I still have a way to go in all those areas but I want to help others along whilst developing myself.

I am also currently studying for a business administration degree with the open university.
j)Intend to work towards a successful future for BSAC. In terms of both club membership numbers and fi nances. I am both diabetic and dyslexic, this means I have a special interest in disability issues and making the sport of scuba diving open to the widest possible membership. Divers join BSAC for many different reasons. We have one common aim to enjoy safe diving. I will work hard to produce policies that will benefi t the club’s membership. I have previous national council membership as well as considerable commercial expertise. I believe that I will be able to offer BSAC good advice and more importantly ideas. In addition, I will be a motivated member of the council. I will support the extremely hardworking head offi ce staff, to the best of my abilities. In addition, I will be very willing to listen to all divers points of view and ideas. I believe that BSAC has a momentous future and many additional divers will enjoy the considerable benefi ts of its membership. I will be committed to achieving this for you if elected. j)As a diver for over ten years I have a varied diving experience, with recent dives ranging from instructing new divers in 5m of water to closed circuit mixed gas dives to 75m. In my current role as Diving Offi cer within my branch, I have contributed towards developing a branch currently increasing in membership and diving experience, and with an enjoyable social aspect; and as an Area Coach I have a good insight into the varied challenges facing branches (both large and small) today. BSAC is now able to take advantage of its new information technology systems to understand better its membership demographic and trends. If elected, I would take an analytical approach (learned in my professional life) to this data, and combine this with my rounded knowledge of diving, the branch structure and ethos, to identify clearly defi ned and fi scally viable strategies which will enable BSAC to develop as an organisation for divers of all interests and needs. The diving world has changed since I took up diving, and will continue to do so, but I am determined that BSAC can continue to excel as a leading diving and diver training body.

i)A significant component of my work involves the commercialisation of technology, and as part of the formation of a spinout company I have taken several Scottish Enterprise workshops concerning business management, financials and tax. I have a good understanding of IT infrastructure and terminology. In addition I can contribute to the council as an experienced diver and instructor.
j)I enjoy my membership of the BSAC as an avid diver, an instructor and as an active member of a regional coaching team. During my association with the BSAC, I have been a member of four branches in different locations in the UK and I maintain strong links with all of them. I dive regularly all over Scotland and elsewhere whenever the opportunity arises!
I strongly support the moves that have been made to improve communication between branches and HQ via the regional team, and if elected commit to make this communication easier and more efficient. I appreciate that this challenge is even greater for overseas branches: this must be addressed if they are to flourish.
University branches show some of the fastest growth in BSAC membership and are the lifeblood of the BSAC. Having been a member of two University branches I am committed to fostering that growth. Handled correctly, this will benefit all branches by providing highly trained and motivated new members when students join ‘the real world’.
I passionately believe that BSAC offers the best way to dive, and to learn to dive, in the world. My goal as a council member will be its continued success.

j)After 37 years and 3,000 dives in the UK and around the world, I am still a student of diving and excited about the next dive. The BSAC is the governing body for the sport of Sub-Aqua in the UK. We must maintain that position by hard-earned reputation and continuing excellence. We must provide training to prepare safe divers, new innovative training for developing equipment and techniques. We must also promote specialist Courses and Expeditions but we must not lose sight of the fact that we are the best diving club in the world. Therefore communication, especially by our Web Site and ‘our club’ magazine BSAC DIVE must reflect the membership’s interests, as well as commercial diving product promotion. The excellent administration by the HQ staff must be monitored to ensure quality control and best value for money. The BSAC shall continue to promote a Safe Framework for sport diving worldwide.

j)I believe that the BSAC will play a pivotal role in diver development for all our members. To do this and to offer the best service and value to members there must be a readiness to listen to members, a willingness to adopt new practices and ideas but at the same time maintaining values and commitment that have worked for the last 50 plus years.
BSAC Council is for members to ensure that their ideas are heard and their vision for the Club is seen. My job, if elected, will be to continue and develop these themes.
