Divers March On Westminster - postponed
With regret the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) has decided to postpone its march on Westminster in support of a Marine Bill. The need for a new Marine Bill is still paramount, and MCS will continue lobbying hard. However, the timing for this particular event was affected by uncertainty surrounding a possible autumn general election . There has also been recent positive movement from Government on this issue.

Kernow Dive Festival 2007 Raises £1350
This year the Kernow Dive Festival, held in Penzance over the weekend of 7/8 July 2007, raised the sum of £1350. This is the 5th year the festival has been running and so far a total £5500 has been raised, with all the monies going to support the work of DDRC.

BSAC Membership Subscription Increase
It has now been two years since BSAC raised membership subscriptions. However at a recent Council meeting, it was agreed that the subs would be raised very slightly from January 2008. The rise has been kept as low as is possible and reflects a rise in line with inflation.

It is easy to breathe underwater - sign up for a BSAC try dive session and you are halfway there. The Ruislip-Northwood branch of the club has invited any would-be diver to either of two sessions at Highgrove Pool in Hume Way, Eastcote on August 30 or September 6, where full instruction will be given followed by a swim with an instructor.

Sustainable Seafood Bible – The one stop shop for eco-friendly seafood cooking. The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) has teamed up with Marks & Spencer to produce the “Fish and Seafood Bible – from the Ocean to the Table”, available in Marks & Spencer stores across the UK from Monday, August 6th. The Seafood Bible is the first recipe book that features only those fish that can be sourced from sustainable or healthy stocks, as described at the MCS sustainable seafood website www.fishonline.org. The Seafood Bible includes essential information and guidance from MCS on choosing sustainable seafood, together with a wide range of beautifully illustrated and delicious recipes for sustainable species of fish and shellfish.

MCS Beachwatch 2007
The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) annual Beachwatch litter survey and clean-up takes place over the weekend of 15th – 16th September 2007, on beaches all over the UK. First Class Diver practical exam changes released
Following a Review of BSAC First Class Diver the Chief Examiner has announced some changes to the entry requirements and format of the FCD Practical Examniation. The changes are designed to encourage and promote a more consistent assessment of candidates’ skills over the two days of the practical exam and also reflect the increasing diversity of divers’ skills and interests.

Dive-in to Clean-up and Help Wildlife
Divers from BSAC Northants 955 club braved the wind and cold last weekend to clean up an important wildlife site. Twelve divers plunged into the icy cold water to collect litter from the lake, whilst other club members and families collected litter from around the drier parts of the site.
