Buxton Sub Aqua Club Assist Police During Floods
On Monday the 25th June during the horrendous weather conditions experienced in Sheffield 3 members of the club contacted Sheffield Police and offered assistance with the club boat. The request was accepted and the three divers took the club RHIB and joined up with the South Yorkshire underwater search unit at the Wicker in the centre of Sheffield. They assisted with the supply of water to a stranded family in the Wicker. The club members remained on site until about 0130 am Tuesday morning when the three joined the UWSU back at its base prior to returning back to Buxton at 3am. The journey back to Buxton was not easy as there were a number of flooded roads, and we came across a fallen tree blocking the road. The road at this point was quite narrow, and the RHIB had to be manhandled to go back, this included lifting the tow hitch over a low fence as to give clearance for the engines to miss the wall on the other side.
