Rhosneiger branch set for series of Beach Cleans

The Rhosneiger branch of the British Sub Aqua Club have set up a number of Beach Cleans in conjunction with Keep Wales Tidy. In consultation with BSAC HQ Safety and Development manager they have agreed appropriate Risk Assessments for these events for both shore and underwater activities.
 
The events are part of a wider ongoing initiative to Keep Wales Tidy and the Coastcare project.
 
Snacks and refreshments will be available for your enjoyment!
 
1.                  Dive Site Clean – Euphrates Point
      Sunday 13th May 2007
      Euphrates Point
      Meet at Bernie’s for 16.30 for evening dive with a drift to high water at 20.00
      Finish at 21.00
Beautiful site with loads of marine life but also loads of snagged fishing tackle.
 
2.                  Beach Clean – Porth Cwyfan – Church in the Sea
      Sunday 27th May 2007
      Porth Cwyfan – Church in the Sea – Nr Aberffraw
      Meet on the beach on lane from Aberffraw Square at12 noon
      For Low Water at 15.40
      Finish at 15.30              Followed by evening Dive.
This is a really beautiful location near to our favoured dive site of Carreg-Y -trai - frequently spoilt by rubbish blown on shore – should get a good catch!
 
3.                  Dive Site Clean – Wreck of the Hermine, Trarddur Bay 
      Sunday 17th June 2007
      Wreck of the Hermine
      Meet at Bernie’s at 9.30 for morning dive out of Rhosneigr on wreck at HW     12.30, or 16.00 for evening dive with a drift to high water at 18.30
      Finish at 21.00.
Beautiful site with loads of marine life but also loads of snagged fishing tackle.
 
4.                  Beach Clean – Cable BayPorth Trecastell & Porth Nobla Beach 
      Sunday 1st July 2007
      Cable Bay – Porth Trecastell & Porth Nobla Beach
      Meet at Cable Bay Car Park at12 noon
      (Low Water at 19.19)
      Finish at 15.30              Followed by evening Dive
This is a really popular location near to our favoured dive sites of Cael Prince, Euphrates and the Sarah.
 
 
5.                  Dive Site Clean – Wreck of the Sarah, Porth Trecastell – Cable Bay 
      Thursday 5th July 2007
      Wreck of the Sarah (1835) beneath Mynydd Mawr
      Meet at Bernie’s at 16.30 for evening dive with a drift towards low water at      20.30
      Finish at 21.00.
 
6.                  Dive Site Clean – Wreck of the MV Kimya, Aberffraw Bay 
      Thursday 9th August 2007
      Wreck of the MV Kimya (1991)
      Meet at Bernie’s at 16.30 for evening dive with a drift towards high water          neap at 20.00
      Finish at 21.00.
Another popular fishing site and loads of snagged fishing tackle.
 
7.                  Beach Clean – Cable Bay – Malltraeth Estuary
      Sunday 12th August 2007
      Malltraeth Estuary
      Meet in Hermon at 12 noon
      (Low Water at 17.00 local)
      Finish at 15.30 Followed by evening Dive
 
Although not directly related to our diving this is a very scenic estuary with prolific marine and bird life – but spoilt by flotsam and jetsam blown in on the prevailing wind.
 
8.                  Beach Clean – Rhosneigr beaches – Long Beach, Rhosneigr & Cymyran
      Sunday 9th September 2007
      Rhosneigr Beaches
      Meet in Rhosneigr Beach Road and Harrison Drive at 12.00 noon
      (Low Water at 17.29)
      Finish at 15.30              Followed by evening Dive
An opportunity to have an end of season clean on the beaches before an evening dive and Barbeque.
 
These events have been organised in consultation with BSAC and Keep Wales Tidy and all necessary equipment, refreshments and snacks will be provided.
Risk Assessments have been undertaken, Please see attached or ask me for a copy, and a short briefing session will be provided for guidance  before each event.
