New Travel Club volunteers wanted
BSAC’s Travel Club is calling for new volunteers to join its Project Team and help drive forward its exciting development plans.
Launched back in 2003 as a coordinated benefit for BSAC members, Travel Club has gone from strength to strength. Offering great holiday deals through our Preferred Travel Partner scheme as well as a wealth of information and dive travel reports through its website – www.bsactravelclub.co.uk – Travel Club has proved to be a real added benefit for BSAC members.
With its fourth anniversary approaching, and with a review of its operation to ensure it offers clear benefits to BSAC members, Travel Club is now on the look out for more volunteers with knowledge of Travel, IT, website content/design or advertising to join the project team.
There have been a series of writers, or Correspondents, involved who have helped develop the content of the Travel Club website under the guidance of Allie Boler, our Chief Correspondent. There are also special Correspondents who look after the photographic and the environment sections. Whilst the Project Team will still retain the support of most of these individuals, David Dixon, Travel Club co-ordinator, is keen to extend the Team’s activities and skill base.
Two additional new roles will be created - Editor of the on-line news bulletin BSAC Traveller to work with Allie and a Business Developer to work with David to expand our scheme of travel partners to non-tour operators and agents. The objective being to recruit suppliers of airport car parking, car hire, currency exchange and the like to the member benefits scheme.
The team is also looking to expand Travel Club’s commercial activities. David explains: “This is likely to involve using the travel website as a great opportunity to bring in advertising revenue to BSAC, as well as securing sponsorship opportunities with BSAC Centres, travel partners, and tourist boards.”
He would very much like to hear from any BSAC member who could help sell advertising space or might be particularly knowledgeable about the travel trade and understand liaison with tourist boards and such like. Additionally, David would like to recruit more volunteers from members with IT experience and those with knowledge of web design and layout.
There is a good deal of autonomy given to volunteers, although they will work within guidelines and are likely to be accountable to either Allie or David and ultimately the Council. BSAC Headquarters also provides extensive support, including administrative and marketing assistance. It is envisaged that it will be necessary for small working groups will meet from time to time to address specific tasks. The main Travel Club Project Team meets normally once a year in London each September.
