Derbyshire Association Boxing Day Raft Race success

Traditionally for the past 44years Derbyshire Association of Sub Aqua Clubs have been running the annual raft event, so this year was no exception and Boxing Day 26th December 2006 saw the sucessful running of the 45th Annual Raft Race. A total of £5825.88 was raised for the charities R.N.L.I, St Johns Ambulance' Hyperbaric unit and Derbyshire Air Ambulance.
It certainly brings you round hitting the cold water of the river Derwent on a cold December morning , The committee were on duty early setting up the site in ready for the arriving rafts ,by nine o clock the site was heaving with activity rafters with tubes and netting ,barrels timber ,some had built rafts with themes. Well done to you all, the event was judged by Matlock Town Mayor.
Ten o clock time for the off the first rafts were sent down the river Derwent on the four mile course through Matlock, down to Matlock Bath, Past the famous Arkwright Mill, onto the finish at Cromford Mill. By this time the rafters have encounter crowds encouraging them on, negotiated a weir and been pelted with flour bombs all in good fun! to raise money for Charity close to divers . R.N.L.I, St John Ambulance, Derbyshire Air Ambulance, Hyperbaric unit.
The rafts by this time have started to arrive at the finish where they encounter a steep bank, before been loaded onto waiting transport.
It’s not over yet! The collection buckets have to be counted and a grand total has to be reached by the hour of two,
