Applications invited for position of BSAC Environmental Officer on NDC

We are now recruiting to the NDC position of BSAC Environmental Officer.
The position of Environment Officer on the BSAC National Diving Committee (NDC) is currently available. As with all NDC posts, this is a volunteer position working within NDC to cover the following role descriptions:
Covering all aspects of Environmental Policy the primary roles of the Environmental Officer are:
- Advisor to NDC on matters relating to environmental issues.
- Source of expertise on environment issues for the BSAC membership.
- Promotion of the BSAC as an environmentally aware organisation.
- Development of Environmental policy and link to BSAC Council
- Representing the BSAC where appropriate in external organisations.
The structure of the NDC is currently organized into a group structure which has been successfully operational since July 2004. This structure can be found at http://www.bsac.org/page/118/national-diving-committee.htm
The Environment Officer currently sits within the Diving Group of NDC and this position has become vacant following the departure of Andy MacLeod. The successful applicant will join a pre-existing team currently led by Geoff Hide.
The first major roles likely to be undertaken by the applicant are:
- liaison with Jane Maddocks with regard to the BSAC’s response to the recent government Marine Bill and a handover of responsibility to monitor the progress of the Bill.
- Development of an educational aspect to environmental issues within the BSAC.
- Development of ideas to nurture our new relationship with the Marine Conservation Society.
These roles do not, of course, prevent the applicant from developing their own ideas.
The Person specification is as follows:
Essential Criteria:
Appointed by NDC; interest in environmental issues; ability to liase with external organisations; ability to monitor and develop policy on environmental issues; ability to learn relevant aspects; ability to deal with emails/correspondence relating to relevant issues; ability to contribute to other aspects of diving within the National Diving Committee; commitment to the promotion of diving within the BSAC.
Desirable Criteria:
First Class Diver or experienced diver; knowledge/experience of environmental issues; knowledge of environmental law.
