Seasearch Project SW01/2008

Click for larger versionThe Rhondda Sub-Aqua Club are undertaking a Seasearch project in the area surrounding Caldey Island and Tenby during 2008.

Seasearch is a national project for volunteer sports divers who have an interest in what they're seeing under water, want to learn more and want to help protect the marine environment.

The main aim is to map out the various types of sea bed found in the near-shore zone around the whole of the British Isles. In addition we are recording what lives in each area, establishing the richest sites for marine life, the sites where there are problems and the sites which need protection.

The area that the Rhondda Sub-Aqua club are surveying and map has never been properly studied using Seasearch methods and the data they will be collecting will be added to a national database made available to any individual or organisation interested.  Supporting Seasearch are Countryside Council for Wales and the Marine Conservation Society.

In addition to contributing to the National database the club are also encouraging other visiting divers to join in with the project and as well as collecting information and images to produce a booklet on the marine life of the area which will be made available to visitors and local residents.

We would be grateful if you could provide support to the club as Seasearch is a registered charity and depends upon volunteers for all the activities.
