Look who's talking at LIDS 2008!
A galaxy of big diving names is set to gather at the London International Dive Show at ExCeL (LIDS) on 8/9 March, organised in association with BSAC.
This year's speaker line-up includes:
- World famous diver Jarrod Jablonski has recently been involved in record-breaking cave diving exploits in the States
- British freediver Sara Campbell has been breaking records of her own, but using less gear.
- Explorer, environmentalist and filmmaker Fabien Cousteau - Grandson of Jacques, and son of Jean-Michel, Fabien will be talking about his fascinating efforts to penetrate the world of great white sharks in a one-man submarine named Troy. He will also talk about his adventures with his father and sister, Celine, where he travelled from the Amazon to the Arctic as part of a new worldwide television series.
- LIDS regular Monty Halls is looking for divers to join him on a new global project
- Ace underwater photographer Alex Mustard will share the stage with Saeed Rashid to offer digital photographers the benefit of their experience.
There will be another 25 free-to-enter seminars going on throughout the weekend, too - including BSAC's 'Sport England Clubmark - how to get your branch accredited' - so there’ll be no shortage of things for the 14,000 or so new and experienced divers and their friends and families to see and do.
As ever there is also a chance for non-divers and children to get wet, in the Try-Dive Pool; and the story of sponge-diving and the hardhat heroes who became involved in this pursuit is the theme of the Historic Diving Society’s exhibit.
In the popular BSAC World area of the show an expert BSAC team will be on hand showcasing the Club’s latest range of courses, products and services for existing and would-be members. Visitors will be able to find out more about every aspect of BSAC diving – from learning to dive, to skill development courses, dive insurance, travel and technical diving.
And, supporting the British Isles Experience feature at LIDS 2008, the Club will have a separate stand highlighting its colourful new “Go! Diving UK” DVD - copies of which will be available free to visitors. Containing stunning footage of diving with marine life including seals and basking sharks, and exploring wrecks such as HMS Scylla and the historic German High Seas Fleet in Scapa Flow, this DVD is recommended viewing for anyone wanting to discover more about our home waters.
You can save £3 by booking tickets to LIDS in advance. Tickets cost just £7.50, as opposed to £10.50 on the door. And if you book for eight people or more, your name will automatically be entered into the eight-ticket draw, with the chance of a dive trip for eight to Malta.
There will also be a grand prize draw with a two-week holiday, worth £5000, to Grenada and Carriacou. The trip will include flights, transfers, diving and B&B accommodation at the Flamboyant Hotel and Ade’s Dream guesthouse, courtesy of the Grenada Tourist Board.
Visit www.diveshows.co.uk for more information and to order your tickets online, or call the ticket hotline on 020 8977 9878. Tickets cost £10.50 on the door. Children under 14 go free.
