Divers wanted for 25th anniversary of the raising of the Mary Rose.

The Mary Rose Trust is inviting divers who took part in the raising the historic ship to join the 25th anniversary celebrations.

The Trust is organising a special 25th Anniversary Divers Reunion on the 13th & 14th October 2007 and would like any divers who may have played a part in the project to get in touch.

To be held in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard – home of the Mary Rose -  the Divers Reunion weekend (13th & 14 October) will be a celebration of the ship and the key role divers played in her recovery.  The weekend programme will include lectures on the Saturday followed by a formal evening dinner, with boat trip to the wreck site on the Sunday. There will also be a range of talks by divers who were involved in the ambitious project.

The only surviving 16th Century warship on display in the world and a favourite of King Henry V111, the Mary Rose sank off Portsmouth in 1545. She was rediscovered during the 1970s and was finally raised in 1982, watched by a worldwide audience of over 60m people.

A more formal three-day programme of lectures is also being planned to coincide with the actual anniversary – 11th October. Speakers will include Dr David Starkey and Dr Nicholas Roger.
